New Castle Public Library began as a subscription library in 1812.
In 1965, it moved from its 3rd Street location (now a museum) to its current location on Delaware Street. The building reopened in 2010 after renovations and expansion were completed to meet the community’s growing needs.
The library offers audio, video, magazines, e-books, databases, and print materials for all ages. It also has a specialized collection of New Castle history. The library has public-access computers and Wi-Fi.
New Castle Public Library is a New Castle County Library System contract library.
New Castle Public Library strives to be a hub of lifelong learning and discovery, working with every generation of our diverse and historic community to offer inspiration, connection, opportunities for growth and renewal, and a celebration of the transformative power of knowledge.
The enthusiastic New Castle Library Friends support the library and plan fundraisers and book sales throughout the year.
